Bharti Airtel might be the first company in India to
introduce the 4G services. It will make commercially available broadband
services in India with high-speed wireless connection. It has been understood
that Airtel had paid around Rs. 3,314 crores for the 4G services spectrum.
It will cover four circles in the country – namely, Karnataka,
Maharashtra, Kolkata and Punjab. The 4G services will be launched in Kolkata today
– Tuesday April 10. The company from China, ZTE – the telecom equipment maker, has
assisted Airtel in setting up the network in Kolkata.
The three other circles will soon by covered by Bharti Airtel.
There will soon be the Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) in the remaining circles,
but it is still not clear which circle will be given the priority.
It is understood that the Reliance Industries which already
has the nationwide license of the BWA spectrum, which they acquired in 2010
have also began their preparations to start their services in their circles
soon.
