Datawind and Quad – the manufacturers of the low cost Indian tablet
Akash are in a feud. Datawind has accused that Quad Electronics have violated
the intellectual property rights as they signed an agreement with the IIT-Rajasthan
for the sake of the development of the gadget. However, it is not the first
time that the Akash has been seen in a controversy.
Suneet Singh Tuli, who is the CEO of Datawind has said in a statement
that it was Datawind that developed the low-cost tablet with its own
intellectual. Quad was given the sub-contract of the same. That is the reason
why the intellectual property rights remain with Datawind, Mr. Tuli said.
He further made a claim that it was Quad who has signed an agreement
of non-disclosure with IIT-Rajasthan. There was also the manufacturing services
agreement to confirm the same.
When the confirmation about Datawind’s claims was needed to
be confirmed, emails were sent to both IIT-Rajasthan and Quad. However, none of
them replied back. A notice has been sent to Quad regarding the violation of
intellectual property and the company is ready to approach the court if the
issue remains unresolved.
